DESCRIPTION:  “It’s not what you say…it’s how you say it.”  With the barrage of information in today’s world, presenting effectively and transmitting your message clearly are more important than ever.  This is true whether you are giving a presentation in class or selling yourself in an interview.  This workshop covers such topics as verbal and non-verbal communication, how to overcome nerves, and using visual aids to your advantage.


  • General introduction talking about the importance of image, sending the right message, and why confidence is attractive
  • The presentation dissected
  • Beyond presentation of facts, findings, and opinions
  • Introduction, middle, conclusion
  • Presentation = communication
  • Content vs. “everything else” (% break-down)
  • Have a theme à what message do you want to convey?
  • Body language: entrance and exit; facial expressions; eye contact; how and where to stand; use of hands; etc.
  • INTERACTIVE – The power of voice (pitch, inflection, tone, pace) and how to project
  • Dealing with nerves (physical and mental preparation)
  • INTERACTIVE – Practice “PREP” technique
  • Effective PowerPoint presentations (e.g., content, reinforcement, use of action verbs, # of slides, animation, etc.)
  • Three tips for success
  • INTERACTIVE – Students prepare and give short presentation on topic of instructor’s choice
